Methodist Mobile Medical Clinic of Paraguay

March 2008: Please pray for this ministry as the clinic is only functioning now when there are mission teams - the clinic does not have any paid staff and currently only has one missionary (a nurse) is available. The clinic needs several missionaries that can serve full-time or funds to hire a core group of Paraguayan medical personnel.

2006 & 2007 Trip to Yrbucua

Photos taken as the Medical Team from St. Matthews Church of Belleville, IL. worked together with missionaries serving in Paraguay to provide clinic services for different towns and surrounding area in the Department of San Pedro. The desire of those serving with the clinic is to serve those who have limited to no access to medical, dental and vision care while sharing the love of Jesus and His Word.

History: Medical Clinic TeamCrowds wait to be examined at clinicMethodist Missionaries in Paraguay take the mobile medical clinic throughout Paraguay to administer medical aid to the poverty-stricken who cannot afford basic medical care. They treat around 5000 patients every year. Patients pay a minimal fee of 1000 Guaranis (about 30 cents) to see a doctor and receive medicine donated from the United States. If you are interested in donating medicines to Paraguay, please contact Mark Waltz.

The missionaries don't stop at physical needs, but also focus on spiritual needs. The people that come to the clinic have the opportunity to receive prayer and many open their hearts to accept Jesus! Praise the Lord! Revival services and childrens programs are often held during the clinic's week-long stay at an area church. Also many of the patients often return to the church because they see experience the love of Jesus through His many workers in Paraguay.

Mark screens child for visual problemsThe most popular person in the medical clinic is not the doctor, but they eyedoctor. Used eyeglasses, donated from the United States, are in high demand by Paraguayans who are too poor to afford a new pair. If you have a good used pair of glasses, please send them to: Children with their new glasses.

Johanna examines a patient In March 2005 the Mobile Medical Clinic visited our community (Barrio Zulma where the New Horizons Christian School is located) along with missionaries Mark and Johanna Waltz. Our church members helped register the patients and Sue Givens spent one day interpreting for one American Doctor. Several other days, Mark and Sue screened all the children and staff for visual problems (see photo below). During the week, special activities were held every evening and church members prayed and shared their faith with all who waited. Please pray for the clinic's many staff needs and funds.

Success Stories:
Joy Varga prepares medicine in the pharmacy of the Mobile Medical Clinic Recently, Mark fitted an older man with a great pair of glasses. He smiled because he finally had good vision ... and began to dance a jig to prove how well he could see! Have you celebrated your vision lately?

Opportunities:
Dentist examines patientIf you are a medically trained individual and are interested in working with the clinic. We would love to have you come. It is ideal if you speak Spanish, but if not a translator can be provided. If you are a dentist, you are strongly urged to come and join the clinic for as long as you can come. The dentist is even more popular than the eye doctor since a sore tooth is more of a problem than poor eyesight! Hope you can join us!
