Parachute

Washington D.C. Work Team brings parachute to share with the children of Barrio Zulma.

Excerpt form Sue Given's August 15, 2003 newsletter:

Thursday was our national celebration of "Dia del Nino" or Children's Day. We have fiestas in both our morning and afternoon classes at the school. The parents prepared special cakes, snacks, candy treats, and decorations. The teachers prepared special tags for each of the children's packages and several Moms and I used the donations from the sponsors to get all the children special gifts then we put the gifts, the children's candy treats and the name tags on all the bags. The children were thrilled with their special gifts and all the children were "very content" knowing they had received gifts from their sponsors. The work team did special puppet shows and had the children play with a parachute. It was the first time any of the children had ever seen a parachute so they were filled excitement.

Today, our work team sponsored an "Hora de Feliz" or a "Happy Hour" of evangelistic activities. In the morning the team prepared for the activity and went door to door inviting children. We decided to invite children in the area, which is often overlooked. Being a national holiday, the Founding of Asuncion, the children came even on short notice. And boy did they come! We figured we might have close to 200 children; but we ended up with over 400 children plus some adults. Our group had planned to do several activities in stages but with that many kids crowd control became almost impossible. When the parachute was opened the kids left their other groups and flocked to it. As we started giving out snacks the kids wouldn't sit and some kept moving forward wanting snacks even after being served several times. We finally had to end the program because there were just too many children and they wouldn't all cooperate. We plan to go back to that area Monday and would like to ask that you pray for us that as we have modified our plans. Please pray that God will direct us to help share with these children. Next week we will be having morning and afternoon programs for the children for two barrios.
