In September of 2000 working with a small church in Lambaré, Paraguay three missionaries using donated funds from the churches and individuals in the United States built a school with future projected enrollments of over 700 students. Currently, the school has an indoor salon with a seating capacity of 200 persons and an outdoor area for about 600 persons. Currently the local Methodist church has outgrown its small church building and is using the school's salon and the outdoor playground, weather permitting. There are numerous times throughout the year the school could host programs for 500 to 1000 and as the school grows, even more space will be needed. Also, in the local community there is neither a large indoor facility nor an outdoor facility that can handle such large groups.
Last year in the small school playground, the pastor hosted a soccer tournament for the men in the community…over a hundred men came; many who would not step into a church. That tournament served as an excellent opportunity to share Jesus and many were won for Christ by participating in sports programs.
The church has also found a wonderful way to reach the community for Christ is through concerts, special video nights, children's programs, and sporting events. As Paraguay's subtropical weather temperatures can range from rainy and cold in the winters to scorching hot (temperatures often 95 and above) outside activities during the day are difficult without shade and often we have thundershowers with make planning special activities a challenge. (For example this past year, over Christmas program extended over three nights due to rain).
This project is designed to build a 1000 to 2000 capacity sports -assembly complex on the six lots the school owns next to the school. The design would include a multi-purpose gym that could accommodate at least five different regulation sports (volleyball, tennis, two types of indoor soccer and basketball). The seating capacity for sporting events space would be approximately 1000 persons. For concerts, special programs and assemblies, the facility could hold up to 2000 persons.

The projected is tentative projected to cost $250,000. We currently have over $40,000 in our account and the school owns the six lots on which to construct the project, but we lack the funds to build. However, in faith, we know God will provide as He did in constructing our $200,000 school which currently houses approximately 300 children, a library open to the community, and provides many other special classes such as English, computer education, Christian Education, Literacy classes, and an accelerated Junior High program for youth and adults who want to return to school for those in the community. The local church also currently uses the school's salon but often it is overflowing.
Hearts will be touched to donate to this project so we can begin the construction by the end of 2005. We need at least 75% of the funds before we can begin construction. If we have all the funds when we start, the construction may be completed within 6 to 7 months. Our desire is to have available for our end of the year activities in 2006 when we will have over 350 children in the school.
