Our hearts and prayers in Paraguay are turned for others suffering especially those from Hurricane Katrina. It is beyond comprehension what little we are seeing and hearing and we can only begin to sense the magnitude of devastation. Such disasters spur our hearts to share the gospel even more so others may have a firm anchor when the storms of life hit.

This past week we have been quite busy at the school and church. Saturday, I took the women to a visiting suburb of Asuncion for a women’s meeting only to find two of my “new…three month old” tires were losing air. So after the main message, I excused myself to get air in my tires where upon, I was informed the one tire could not be just inflated. The guy said he had to replace the valve stem…I took his word, waited as he repaired the tire, paid and then returned the six blocks to the church for the ladies. After all was in, the pastor said, it looks like you need more air. Within seconds my tire was flat…so we rolled the tire back up the hill six blocks and the guy put in another tube…supposedly, I had just run over a nail. Monday morning, as I went out to get in my car, the same tire was flat again. This time a guy from the church helped me… the tire had several little nails and thorns but the worst news was that these “beautiful new” tires are just rethreads that have been sitting in a warehouse for a long time so the rubber is old. Please pray that even though old, they will last a long while on these Paraguayan roadways.

I have begun teaching a course on Intercessory Prayer and Healing twice a week for members of the church, please pray that everyone will be able to understand my thick “gringo” accent and that God will help me with the pronunciation of many of the words that are tongue twisters for me.

Our children in the school have just finished their second set of exams and the majority of the students have done fairly well. I am constantly amazed at how much the children are able to learn when it is presented in a systematic, organized manner. This week I have been visiting some homes and have seen where some of the older siblings are teaching their little brothers (age 2) to sing school songs and say a few English words.

We had two days of visitors in our school this past week, the first being a chiropractor and his team. They did adjustments on many of the staff, some students and some parents. For most, it was a new experience. Next, we had a fellow Latin America Mission Missionary serving in Argentina visit the school. She is a professional photographer and she agreed to take a few photos for us…but in reality no professional photographer can just take a few photos. Thank you, Bonnie!!!

I would like to request prayer for many throughout Paraguay who are struggling with flu, colds, sinus and ear infections. The temperature over the past three weeks has been like a basketball bouncing up and down…from the 30’s to the high 90’s. Last Saturday night, I took Ivanna to the hospital and she has been in bed all week with ear problems. Please pray for her and others.

The (deomon-possessed) gal I asked everyone to pray for in last week's letter is doing remarkably well. I thank God for the recovery she is making and how her family is growing spiritually. Her husband and she may be moving about 20 minutes from Lambaré, please pray for God to strengthen them and guide their steps.

As for me, I have been burning the candle at both ends and have been quite exhausted. Last night and this morning was a near record; I unplugged the phone turned off the door bell and was able to stay rest for almost nine hours. It felt so good to just rest and especially with it being so cold, I was quite snug under my electric blanket…thank you Lord. Please pray for me as I am dealing with a number of people who are having problems with other persons. Please pray the Lord will give me discernment and wisdom in each situation.

Please remember to keep Mable in your prayers. She needs to have both hips replaced but before the doctors can operate, she needs to be free from an ongoing infection. Also, please lift up my sister-in law Jill this week as she celebrates her birthday. I pray the Lord’s blessings upon you. Have a safe and fun Labor Day!

Love,
Sue
