New Horizon School has evolved into the hub of its community. We network and work collaboratively with many agencies to provide assistance and services for families in our school and the community. Increasingly we have found that our school has become a central source for information and referrals for families in the community with a variety of needs. In late 2000 through 2002, we constructed New Horizon School and began with 51 students. We have since expanded and are now serving over 520 children, their families and several hundred others in our community. Our plan is to continue to grow so that we can provide educational services for over 750 children from age 4 through 12th grade as well as recreational, music, library, computer and other services to several thousand community members each year. Our desire is to expand our services through our “La CERMA Proyecto” (Comunidad, Educación, Recreación, Música y Arte Proyecto) or in English “The Community, Education, Recreation, Music and Art Project.” In “La CERMA Proyecto”, we plan to: - Construct a multipurpose assembly, sports, music and drama center.
- Double the size of the library to provide additional resources and internet facilities.
- Update the computer laboratory to have the computers interfaced to a central area and to have internet capabilities.
- Add additional classrooms, programming areas and an art room.
- Provide protective covering (tinglados) over the two general recreational areas which will increase programming areas for the early childhood and elementary areas and provide space for community and recreational events.
- Provide a Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics laboratory.
